Book of Common Prayer

The Book of Common Prayer guides worship in The Episcopal Church.

The first prayer book captures the Protestant insight of how God works in Jesus to restore human dignity by grace. But it also preserves what was good and wholesome in the worship of the old Roman Catholic Church.

Thus worship in the Episcopal Church as "both catholic and protestant." People from Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist and Pentecostal traditions appreciate our proclamation of the Word and how we call people to faith in God's grace. People from the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions value our emphasis on the community gathered around the Eucharistic meal (communion).

The Book of Common Prayer preserves this middle way between the protestant and catholic traditions.

Soft Space

This summer we have a new pilot project — we are trying out a new way to invite and make room for our young and wiggly children of God during our Sunday worship. This idea of hospitality grew out of our need to find childcare providers for our nursery on Sunday morning. While we search for new nursery workers we feel it’s important to make room for the youngest of our parishioners, assuring our families that there is a place for everyone at St. David’s no matter your age. With a generous donation from a church member, we are making the Summer Soft Space a comfortable and loving place where our children know they are welcomed, loved, and cherished by God. “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs” (Matt. 18:16).
