Trustees

The Trustees of St David’s Episcopal Church and School have two responsibilities. The first is established by the Diocese of Virginia for all church and missions within the Diocese.   The second is unique to St David’s.

First Responsibility -- Canon 15 Section One of the Canons and Constitution of the Diocese of Virginia requires that “All real and personal property held by or for the benefit of any Church or Mission within this Diocese is held in trust for The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Virginia. The Vestry of every Church and, when authorized by the Bishop, the Vestry Committee of a Mission, shall elect Trustees for appointment pursuant to law to hold title to such property.” The Vestry then elects the Trustees who must be approved by the Judge of the Loudoun District Court (a carryover from colonial times) and reported to the Diocese. Any action, such as an easement for a water line, must be approved by the Trustees and reported to the Diocese. Real and personal property includes the land, the buildings, and the furnishing of the buildings.   Actions by the Trustees under this provision are relatively rare.

Second Responsibility – At St David’s the Vestry in 2000 assigned the responsibility for the Cemetery to the Trustees. Thus, they are responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and use of the Cemetery including the columbariums and graves.   They published “The General Laws and Regulations of Saint David’s Episcopal Church Cemetery” in 2000 and it has been periodically updated. The most recent update is December 5, 2008. A copy is available at the resources tab of this website. It is the best place to start if you have questions about the Cemetery.
